The machine is virtually maintenance free, for example, there are twelve grease nipples on a single fold forty-eight foot machine all on the transport wheels.
All of the press wheel and disc bearings are sealed and we offer a three year warranty on those bearings as described above.
Muffler wheels
The discs cut a path through the soil and propel a wave of soil off each disc. As this wave of soil is being propelled, the seed is planted behind the disc. The press wheels then press the soil out to cover the seed. This works very well in friable soils but in compacted or hard conditions, the disc may cause the soil to break away in chips resulting in uneven coverage of the seed. In these conditions, it is recommended to use our muffler wheels, rubber wheels that roll alongside the disc which crunch the chips down over the seed ensuring even coverage of the seed.
Press wheels
The press wheels press the soil back over the seed to seal the soil and obtain good soil to seed contact. In some conditions, press wheels placed directly over the seed can cause crusting and retard or prevent the emergence of the seedling. The press wheels can be off-set if required to prevent this occurring.
V-shaped press wheels to aid in water harvesting are presently being trialed and are expected to be available for the 2011 planting season.
Double shooting and Rhizoctonia control using deep tillage
If rhizoctonia is a problem then cultivation beneath the seed may be the answer. We offer a fluted disc opener which can cultivate at depths up to six inches. This is available as a kit to cultivate between the rows or to cultivate in each row. Cultivation to a depth of six inches can be achieved with this package and nitrogen can also be applied. This same method can be used to place the nitrogenous fertilizer between the rows and totally away from the seed.
The Bullet is available in trailing and 3 point linkage versions
