Development

The Bullet has been developed to assist broadacre farmers to get through stubble and reduce input costs when planting.

Why develop a machine that is different

All living things need protection from weather extremes such as wind, flooding and the sun.  The soils are no different in that they need to be protected from extremes of nature and nature itself does that very efficiently.  In nature, when the material used to protect the soils from these extremes has finished that job, it rots into the soil maintaining the organic content and general well being of our soils.  The organic content of soils in the farmed areas has been steadily falling and chemical use has been steadily increasing over a number of years.

It has been said “If farmed land remained uninhabited for the next hundred years, all of the soil would have ground cover”.  Ground cover protects the soil from the elements, it protects it from water erosion, wind erosion and evaporation and other damage due to the sun.

We developed the Bullet to give farmers more options when planting, to get through no matter how thick the stubble and to reduce input costs.

Trash

Where trash is lying on the ground, The Bullet will cut through it and plant beneath the trash and leave the trash on top.  The disc is angled to the direction of travel and the vertical.  The size of the disc and the angle to the direction of travel enables the disc to grab the trash and tear it sideways as it is pushing it into the ground.  It is this action that has virtually eliminated hair pinning.  Further, the large disc, 24 inches, allow the disc to get on top of the trash and control it rather than pushing it forward which has the potential for a blockage.

  • Trash handling in this manner has a number of benefits.
  • The stubble rots on top as in nature rather than incorporated as in mechanical or chemical solutions which can lock up nutrients in the soil.
  • The stubble root gives the soil some structure which helps to prevent erosion.
  • The standing stubble slows down the wind speed at ground level thus reducing wind erosion.
  • The standing stubble helps to protect the ground from the heat of the sun thus aiding in moisture retention for the growing season.
  • The standing stubble protects the emerging seedling from the heat of the sun.
  • The trash laying on the ground aids in moisture retention for the growing season.
  • Green manure can also be incorporated

Caution: If down stubble is excessive, it may prevent emergence much like garden mulch.
